Striking Bicycle Storage

London firm Sarah Wigglesworth Architects have completed a striking storage for bikes in Bermondsey, London. The proposal states it can safely store up to 76 bicycles using a double-decker system for future residents in Bermondsey Square. The external skin is constructed from 13 Douglas Fir portal frames, clad externally with triangular, stainless-steel panels based on the geometry of several unravelled gem-like bollards from the external landscaping and internally with translucent, glass-reinforced plastic sheeting, robust materials and sensor integrated lighting which raise awareness of the bicycle store and acts as a deterrent to criminal activity. I really like how it serves as a functional installation yet looks like an art sculpture and is just as beautiful in the day as it is at night. Excellent use of material to allow natural daylight in while still being protected from bad weather. I think it would make a great meeting spot come night time :)
